I thought the purpose of the fediverse was to create a framework for strong independent communities that cannot be subverted by corporate (reddit) interests.
But without numbers there is no strength, no purpose for organization. Then what are we doing here? Mild entertainment?

The biggest strength of the fediverse is that administrators and users have control over what they consume. They are not force-fed information from third-parties without their consent.
So, companies and politicians are going to show up on the fediverse. But you don’t have to follow them.
We’ll just have to wait and see. But clearly people here don’t want to get even close to the numbers of the big sites.
I mean, why would we? Clearly that brings more bad than good things?
