Giuseppe “Pino” Pinelli (1928 - 1969) was an Italian railroad worker and anarchist who fell to his death on this day in 1969 while being detained by Italian police. His death became the subject of the play “Accidental Death of an Anarchist” by Dario Fo.

Pinelli was a member of the Milan-based anarchist association named “Ponte della Ghisolfa”, and was also the secretary of the Italian branch of the Anarchist Black Cross. He organized young anarchists in the “Gioventu Libertaria” (Libertarian Youth) in 1962 and helped found the “Sacco and Vanzetti anarchist association” in 1965.

A few days before Pinelli’s death, Italian fascists from the “Ordine Nuovo” orchestrated a bombing campaign in Milan; one bomb in Piazza Fontana killed 17 people and injured 88. The bombing was blamed on Italian anarchists, and Pinelli was detained along with many other leftists, including Pietro Valpreda, who was falsely convicted and served eighteen years in prison.

Just before midnight on December 15th, 1969, Pinelli fell to his death from a fourth floor window of the Milan police station. Three police officers interrogating Pinelli, including Commissioner Luigi Calabresi, were put under investigation in 1971 for his death, but legal proceedings concluded it was due to accidental causes.

Calabresi was later gunned down at his home in 1972, for which left-wing journalist Adriano Sofri was convicted in 1997.

I’m enjoying all the bluesky people, feels like a very friendly group. Way less hostility than the federation influx. I have found the earnest usernames kinda funny by comparison to what’s become the standard Hexbear username style of a reference to the most obscure communist you’ve never heard of or the weirdest pun ever (frequently both). Seeing names like AceTransCommunist is adorably not ironic.

I get why they’re doing it because they’re used to sites like Twitter and Bluesky but tbh it is a little jarring seeing them posting their other socials in their bios and stuff. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but I go out of my way to make sure nobody can easily link me to anywhere else.

I’m replying to Bureaucrat, the shared account, the most opsec option for posting here even, so…I would like maybe a sticky about the fact that we’re pretty anonymous. The opsec rules are there for a reason and although I’m personally okay with letting a decent amount of myself be known, I’ve been here forever and I can say for certain my file as it existed prior to hexbear is thicc enough that a message board means nothing to me, but a general guide maybe should.get a sticky. I’m not writing it but someone should.

I think it was mentioned but not strongly conveyed “hey you should probably not use the same name you used on twitter and bluesky” at least for their own safety. I don’t want to scare anyone off either by saying “this site is a red mark” because it’s not like posting on 4chan or something but if you wouldn’t tell your boss you’re a communist (as an example), you probably shouldn’t use your real name here either. So a sticky/explainer is probably a good idea.
