So we have this weirdo being just completely wrong on purpose and then FlyingSquid who is going around right now saying everyone’s telling them to commit suicide and that they are a moron to be listened to.
Maybe the issue here is that you’re assuming that these people are considered heroes by anyone to begin with. Just because they post a lot, doesn’t mean anyone looks to them as anything more than what they are.
That’s just silly. They could be just famous then. Or infamous. Words that mean what you are looking for. The point of celebrity is that they are celebrated. I’m making a joke on someone else comment using the word play of that comment and you are trying to change the definition to alter it.
If you don’t find it funny, fine, but please don’t try to alter my comment by altering a definition of a word to have an explanation to not finding it so. It’s needlessly pedant.
Edit: fun game, try to name a celebrity that isn’t celebrated. I couldn’t but you may fare better.
Fair point. Though in defense, it’s hard to tell a joke is in jest simply from text. I get it though. My response may have been a bit more aggressive than it needed to be and for that, I apologize.
I’m commenting on the use of celebrity there. I understand that people are not cohesive in their views but it still stands that those are 2 weird reasons to stand out.

Lemmy sure does have such heroes to look up to.

Content contributors.
A celebrity is someone who is celebrated. Generally positive connotation there.
I think we just then need a different word for someone who gives a lot of people something to talk about whether it is good or bad.
“Celebrity” just means “a famous person,” regardless of the origin of the word. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re actually celebrated by anyone.

Nah you good. You never detracted from the conversation, you responded fine.
I think your statement on content contributor is pretty on point.
I’m not against asking someone to explain further. Especially in text. Doubly so for forum style short comments where the audience is varied.
They’re well-known regulars. How individual people think of them is another matter.

It’s a joke. Ha ha.
