Lemmy ✅ Linux ✅ Atheist ✅ Left leaning ✅ Tankie? I’ll get back to you on that

I have some weird affection for the tankies that I shouldn’t have. They’re objectively horrible people for their views, but I got so used to pissing them off with referring to a certain cartoon animal that I’d kinda miss them. How can I make it stop?

      Awww, so nice.

Can you serve as a job reference for them? “Yes, agent 83847 was sooooo stealthy. They never once accidentally sent me a dick pic.”

The fbi is always monitoring far left spaces. There’s an old joke that half the people at any given communist party usa meeting are cops/fbi.

They don’t need an account to read everyone’s posts. The real stealth is that some instances are likely run by states so they have your IP.

( I found it odd that Lemmy.world, which claims to be in Netherlands, censored many Luigi threads during the first week.)

They probably don’t want to get sued. I disagree with removing Luigi posts, but they’re a huge instance run by individuals who also have a life and getting sued would be catastrophic

.world has a community dedicated to him by now. Maybe they were a bit overprotective at the beginning. I think I saw a post once that said “don’t post such memes in communities about XYZ”. Maybe it really was more a community thing than the instance

Well, some people took it a bit too far. I get the message that health insurance companies are hell, but applauding murder… Are we better than them if we do that?

Am I better than someone that legally murdered hundreds of thousands for cheering someone that illegally murdered that 1 person? Yes. Yes I am.

My point is, using the opportunity to open the debate on the complete despair of people oppressed by private healthcare is the way to go. Let’s just not make this about revenge on the rich CEOs involved. Removing their privilege is revenge enough.

I agree… like on a theoretical level. Then, USA is what it is, with their school shootings and all. So, what Luigi Mangione (or someone else) did should be seen in that context. There’s a certain virtue in knowing to direct your anger/ despair to those causing, enjoying, and profiting over your misery. And it wasn’t a mere revenge act, it is full of symbolism if only because here we are, discussing it.

True, there is some amount of gun violence glorification in the US. And it’s completely sane to be angry at your oppresors, but it needs to be channeled into something productive. Killing CEOs is just gonna make them pressure governments to increase repression with armed police and global surveillance. Violence begets violence, so it should only be used as a last result.

And how would you do that? By voting very hard?
