Vancouver and it’s ilk have been fighting modernization for decades now.
Light rail, or a high frequency commuter train, is the only way to keep bridge traffic even remotely in check, but the North side of the river just doesn’t understand math and basic volume calculations that show there’s no way to add more space for cars to move the quantity of vehicles needed for private transit options.
Even better would be understanding that the speed of public transit sets the floor for the speed of private car travel times. The faster you make the public services, the faster the cars get to travel.
Pay for trains == cars go vroom vroom
Amazing how people keep voting against things that’ll help them. “Traffic is bad. Let’s not make things that’ll help reduce the amount of vehicles on the road.”
Stupid ass people around Atlanta keep making the same arguments about MARTA. Complain about traffic all the time but vote down every expansion MARTA could possibly make. Even better when people preface their decision by saying MARTA doesn’t make money. OHH, AND WE MAKE MONEY ON ALL THE ROADS THAT GET BUILT. I must have missed that class in school.
