minus-squareEx Nummis@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up26·1 年前I’ve always hated Discord since the very beginning. At least now I have yet another really good reason. Never used it, never will. Ventrilo for lyfe.
minus-squareairikr@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkarrow-up18·1 年前For me it’s Mumble. Open sourced and completely free with encryption, and temporary chat logs.
minus-squareacockworkorange@mander.xyzlinkfedilinkarrow-up10·1 年前Ventrilo looks someone’s bad first open source project, but it’s proprietary. The audio quality must be orgasmic for people to use it.
minus-squareDiva (she/her)@lemmy.mllinkfedilinkarrow-up6·1 年前it’s what people used before things like discord, that and teamspeak
minus-squareacockworkorange@mander.xyzlinkfedilinkarrow-up8·1 年前So like XMPP, SIP, Mumble, or Matrix without the chat part.
minus-squareacockworkorange@mander.xyzlinkfedilinkarrow-up12·1 年前Nothing. Like, absolutely nothing. It didn’t keep up with the times. I spent am untold amount of time on IRC, but the fact that you have to be online to have a chance to read messages just doesn’t jive with most people’s schedules anymore.
minus-squareTelex@sopuli.xyzlinkfedilinkarrow-up5·edit-21 年前Spam and other attacks did happen. And it doesn’t really handle being mobile or disconnected without some sort of proxy. Among other things. It’s still there, but withered and infested. Kind of like Usenet and real email.
minus-squareKaryoplasma@discuss.tchncs.delinkfedilinkarrow-up8·1 年前It was XFire -> TS -> Vent -> Skype -> Discord for me.
minus-squarex00z@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·1 年前Audio quality Teamspeak3, Discord and Mumble all use Opus Voice Teamspeak2 and Ventrilo used Speex and eventually CELT. CELT is decent but Opus is better. WIth current hardware and cheap hosting, setting Opus Voice to max quality is best.
