Thousands were ordered to flee, but some locals who refused to leave have taken the fight into their own hands, accusing the province of failing to provide enough resources and effectively abandoning them to protect their homes.
Reid Foreman is one of them. He admits he knowingly disobeyed evacuation orders and tells CTV News he would do it again.
I like how randos think they can manage a fire better than pros. It’s great that you want to protect your home from a fast, hot, broad fire like that one, with a garden hose, but when nature does what it does, and when the fire does exactly what the pros feared, how much labour do we invest saving people who refused to follow safety direction?
If you move, take or damage emergency gear, you need to be on a blacklist where you don’t get emergency services anymore. Because fuck you. And that’s well-understood.
But diverting labour as firemen with their own families risk their lives to save your dumb ass, what’s the over-under on how much we care about your “I know better than pros” self?
It’s either we let you burn later or we handcuff and remove you now. What’s the choice, here? We can talk about how much jail time you get later as a stupid tax.
Crazy thing is you watch the video and the one dude has a 3" going. Makes you wonder if he didn’t rescue it from a back-up site somewhere close by. 😠
video here under heading “Tensions rise in Shuswap fire fight”.
They are stealing gear from the fire fighters and making the situation worse. They are endangering professional and volunteer firefighters and other people’s lives and property.
God damn some people are so fucking stupid. “I didn’t leave when you told me to and now you’re not devoting enough effort to support my selfishness”
Man, I don’t envy the people in charge that have to put up with this nonsense.
Okay Mr.Mullet, you think you guys can do this, it’s all yours. Take the trained forces somewhere that wants help. Except I know when the town burns down all we’ll hear is “They abandoned us!”. I understand that no one wants to feel helpless, but you should know that sometimes you have to step aside and let someone who’s job it is, do their job.
Their arguments seems to be that the gear was just sitting there not being used when it could have been being used to protect their property so they were within their rights to take it.
Can we give them stickers to put on their trucks, ATVs, and boats so that everyone else knows that if they see them sitting somewhere not being used it’s ok to take them if you could be using them?
