Pedro Sánchez noted Russia has been banned from the contest since 2022 following its invasion of Ukraine, and said there should not be “double standards”.
Can’t believe it hasn’t happened yet. Genocide shouldn’t be a Eurovision value.
Mr. Sanchez is right, there should be no double standards. They should do that. It’s just a bit weird that Mr. Sanchez is talking about double standards while at the same time he is one of the closest European allies of China (maybe second only to Hungary’s Orban). A genocide happens there, too. What does Mr. Sanchez say about that?
You’re right, we should ban China from Eurovision.
Oh dang didn’t see China perform this year. Mr. Sanchez works fast.
You might have (intentionally?) misunderstood the comment.
Sir zaphod is probably just telling you to cut the crap.
Just don’t tune in to Eurovision or interact with their media.
It’s not like you’re gonna miss anything particularly good or musically innovative or even interesting. It’s the same old standardized pop-slop it has been for years.
With that logic why still bar Russia from it? Just don’t watch it…
Why still bar Russia indeed. The double standard is what it’s about.
And yeah, what else can you do? Just don’t watch it. It’s entertainment.
You think the Eurovision Execs are gonna go down with the ship for their beliefs on matter? Or do you think “shrinking wallets” will be enough to make them reconsider their position regarding the show?
I’m betting on the latter. But enough people have to decide to give up on a sub-par music competition for a single year.
The russian broadcasters left the Eurovision Broadcasting Union and participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is open to all EBU members. So it’s not a thing of “why is Russia still banned”, but Russia left the European Television Network in order to do whatever they are doing. ESC is only a small part of that.

Yeah this comparison does not compute.
It’s very simple: Either you were not aware that both countries target children and hospitals. Or you are okay with one of the countries doing that, but not the other.
So are you ignorant, or a monster?
