It’s situational.
Assuming the guest is going to be staying long enough to bother, hats tend to come off unless they’re ball caps. Men here wear those damn near constantly, sometimes even in their own homes.
Coats, it depends. There’s no strict etiquette to follow across the board. Most homes, you tend to take them off and the host will either take them, or direct you where to take them. But nobody really thinks it odd if you keep one on unless it’s unusually warm weather, or it makes a lot of noise.
Shoes, it’s usually not a thing to take them off as default. Most people are fine if you do as an invited guest, but won’t object much if you don’t unless they’re dirty as hell. But there are still people that want all guests to remove their shoes, at least in parts of the house.
Pants, not too common for there to be a rule about at all
That’s good. I tend to wear skirts anyways.
Is there places in the world where you’d leave your coat or shoes on when entering? Genuine question. Hats I can see being a traditional thing at least for the older generations.
Every home and work room I have ever been to has leaving shoes on as a norm, though in one instance I took my shoes off anyways because it was someone from school with connections to Japan. The coat one is more of a matter of choice; some people would expect I leave my jean jacket at the door, others would be accustomed to me not doing so.
Where are you from? I’m Canadian. If you wore a jacket that would mean it’s cool outside. Houses are kept warm so you’d be too warm wearing the jacket inside so you’d take it off at the door unless you were just running inside quickly. Shoes is strange to me. Never wanted to leave shoes on in someone’s house.
Currently Vermont. It has actually been a cold late Spring/Summer due to the combined lake effect, polar vortex, and overall weather. Depending on what you’re wearing as a second/third layer, it just kind of becomes synonymous with a part of what one is wearing.
If I had my own house and set my own rules, pants would be optional.
