What do I do? Well I start by not calling them “likeable” and continue by calling them “fascists with huge egos whom I despise”.

But I mean you do you Kelsey.

Man I thought this was gonna be about the very real dilemma about what is to be done with ICE and other political vanguards if libs ever get power again while trying to come out the other side with some semblance of rule of law and respect for institutions. And the plain fact is that by weaponizing the government to the degree they have, the Trump administration has made it very difficult to ever return to a place where it’s not weaponized.

But her long winded defense of the doge boys undermines her point. They’re not ‘smart young boys’, they’re worms who’s vile crime will stain us for generations.

Ah yes, the poor little smol bean uwu Doge boys. It’s not their fault they (probably) killed 100,000 children. Anyone could have done that!

Back in the real world, these people were adults who let 100,000s die because they didn’t care to check the likely outcome of cutting the programs they assumed were worthless.

“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”

Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Almost as if Fitzgerald was describing a type.

    Gosh.

“DOGErs aren’t that bad! They are just bad as the gain-of-function researchers that definitely invented COVID-19 and Super AIDS, something that definitely happened and isn’t a far right conspiracy theory! Which I wouldn’t believe anyway, because I’m a morally superior centrist! (except tee hee I actually parrot the right all the time!)”

Piper doesn’t deserve the privilege of having an opinion.

What a way to sneak the covid conspiracy theory into the bigger consciousness, just talk about it like it is an established fact.

She must hate grapefruits. (Yeah, a stretch, some commercialized grapefruits come from Atomic Gardening which is also a sort of gain of function research, and prob a lot riskier in spreading mutations into wider nature. But there is no witchhunt over that so people aren’t aware. (I just think it is neat).

I don’t particularly care about whether COVID was a lab leak or not at this point: gain of function research was spectacularly stupid. It was entirely unclear how it was going to achieve anything of any positive consequence whatsoever except extending the careers of the researchers in question whilst putting the entire world at risk.

Worst risk / benefit trade-off in biological sciences ever?
