Republican congressman Mike Flood has gotten an earful during a Nebraska town hall held to defend his support of President Donald Trump’s tax breaks and spending cuts law.
And that crowd was chanting “Tax the rich! Tax the rich! Tax the rich!” That was really nice to see in Nebraska.
Fuck these guys, they work for lobbyists, not the people.

Im getting really sick and tired of this rhetoric.
You know that well over a quarter million registered voters in Nebraska didn’t vote for Trump, right? Did it occur to you that many of these people in the audience are carrying out a civil duty that’s more important than checking a box on election day? Given that fact, maybe you should give them some grace, considering that they’re likely on your side? And even if they weren’t on your side to begin with, they could be coming around to it.
The fact of the matter is that a majority of people in Nebraska voted for Trump, though, and now they are getting the policies. So they can scream tax the rich but they voted in a billionaire that only cares about money.
They even got a 4 year example of the guy, yet they still voted him back in. I’m glad they are coming around, but maybe next time they can get a little more educated in their views or open their damn eyes.
So yes, it’s great but they need some humility and it needs to sting. Otherwise, they just pick R again because they aren’t “woke”.

This is a town hall with boos. Not death of children. Of course, they don’t deserve that. But I do hope Texas Republicans and families that voted for this are woken up from it.

When we have fair elections without gerrymandering, brazen disenfranchisement scheme, and a system where a simple majority takes all, we can say things like this.
Until then, grouping the entire populace of a state together has a large portion of victim blaming.
That might have been an argument in 2016, but Trump won the popular vote in 2024. Both across the US, and specifically in Nebraska.
Nebraska is also one of only two states in the US (the other being Maine) where they don’t use a winner-take-all system. They divide votes by district, which saw 4 EC votes for Trump and 1 EC vote for Harris. Albeit, if the districts were stacked closer to proportional representation, it should have only been 3 votes for Trump and 2 for Harris.
I’ve got some extra blame to throw around, at any rate. I’m sympathetic to the people in this audience who want their voice to be heard, but the fact remains that there are still more Trump supporters in Nebraska than supporters of Harris or any other candidate. The majority got their way.
Can you explain to me how responding that they deserved it to these people (that probably largely didn’t vote for trump) in the context that they are going to their rep’s town Hall and raising these issues directly is useful? Seriously fuck this attitude.
