Meanwhile the people reduce their use and the utilities just keep increasing the price of use. Instead they should be jacking up the cost to the businesses. My power/water bill was $600 last month. My utility bill is half the cost of my mortgage.

There is nothing wrong with consuming less if you can afford to do so. I don’t get why shame such movements, it’s needless to say that a systemic change would be more effectful, but participating in such a movement is in and of itself a form of protest
It’s a performative distraction that makes people feel better on an individual level without actually addressing underlying root causes. These movements act as roach motels that divert people from engaging with problems in a meaningful way.
