Sudden trailer and announcement for Yakuza Kiwami 3! I guess Sega decided to go back to calling the series Yakuza at least for this title? Maybe “Like a Dragon Kiwami” is too much of a mouthful. Also looks like there’s a completely new campaign where you play as Mine, which is awesome
Yakuza 3 is a personal favorite of mine so this could be neat. This trailer and announcement was a surprise. Sega must be making a ton of money on this series.

I’m kinda surprised Kiwami 3 is happening at all because Y3 is fine as it is. I know people dislike the combat, saying it’s slow and enemies block too much, but I’ve always kinda liked that. I like how the combat is more methodical and encourages cool Tekken juggle combos with bouncing dudes off the floor and walls. Future games kinda lost that except in some of Akiyama’s combat.
But also my memories are mostly of Yakuza 3 on the PS3 and I’ve heard the modern remaster has some weird framerate glitches that caused stuff like Kiryu’s quickstep to be too long or enemies blocking too much.
My experience with it was less about it being slow, I never had much fun to even get good at it and in the end used the same combo to win, I had closer and way more enjoyable fights in 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2, I probably shouldn’t have even been able to use the same combo to get through the entire game.
I’m more surprised it’s happening at all because it might as well be non canon with how little it’s referenced in any of the other games, and for good reason since it has some of the worst plot points and twists in the series.
The combat might be screwed up in the remaster, there are other bugs in those too like 60 FPS breaking the physics in bowling and pool. I don’t remember the combat being any good on PS3 either. It’s also probably getting a remake because of how dated it feels in every way aesthetically and gameplay wise compared to 4.
I played the original on PS3 though unless they release it on PS4 I might not play it. I really gotta say it feels like they gonna give Kanda the kiwami niski treatment since it looks like they are trying to flush him out in Mine’s story. Part of me honestly would have preferred kenzan kiwami or the Black panther series tho
