Same thing with pots in the dishwasher. They either survive or I don’t want them.
I allow one thing to not go in there, that’s the cast iron.
I also try to not use the cast iron that much.
You just let it heat up long enough to burn off the last meal then wipe it off before cooking.
If it dies, it dies; but no way I’m going through the hassle of hand washing.
No need to actually hand wash. Most machines have a wools or gentle setting explicitly designed for hand wash only garments.
Survival of the fittest.
Same with plants. If they don’t like being watered very irregularly, they won’t survive very long 🙂
My tired brain thought that plants were a type of pants.
Plain pants? Pleated pants? Pleather pants? Oh - plants. If you water your pants too often, go and see a doctor.
Exacta. I stopped bothering with ironing or separating whites from colors a decade ago. It doesn’t get bought if it picks up stains from other clothes, bleeds color to other clothes, or gets wrinkled even if I hang dry or hang it up hot from the dryer.
Only exception is merino wool sweaters (lay flat to dry) and a few dress clothes (dry clean only).
“This shirt is dry clean only, which means it’s dirty”
I’m guessing you do first few washes of new clothes separate from others because almost always they give out some colour at first
Nope, I just don’t care about it.
It can just make it so that all colours and especially white clothes get “muddled” and look more worn faster. But if it doesn’t bother you then I wouldn’t separate them either, extra effort for no benefit
Sounds like it doresn’t have what it takes to thrive in this fast paced environment.
If anything says “hand wash”, it’s staying in the store.
Do people sort their washing? I don’t think I’ll ever be this mature.
Cold water, every time. I do my whites separately, because I have enough for a full load. When I had teenagers I did a load of blacks. (That’s also a good place for the occasional red item so it won’t ruin everything else.) But I ain’t smushing anything around in no sink!
This shirt is dry-clean only. That means… it’s dirty.

And before anyone asks: Yes I have gotten quite good at fixing seams and reattaching buttons.
I have a South Park mug that says “not safe for dishwasher or microwave” on its base. I’ve had it since the late '90s and have never honoured those instructions.
Whenever I see that on a piece of crockery my response is the same - “May the odds ever be in your favour!”
when the laundry wants $4.50 for a washer and $2.00 (x2) for a dryer everything is washed together and dried together.
Everything gets washed on permanent press as well. Nearly everything you buy is synthetic fibers or polyester blends now anyway.
What is permanent press? Most of my stuff is cotton as I avoid plastic clothes and I just go with what ever sounds like the most generic wash setting and then stick it out on the line.
