The first step to privatizing a public system is to first sabotage the public system so thoroughly that people are actually genuinely furious about it, so that when privatization is suggested, it can pretend it’s exactly the solution to the problem that’s been invented and for awhile, it will actually seem like an improvement, long enough to cement it in place so that future governments will not be able to gain any traction if they try to undo it. It has to be done this way so it becomes a fait accompli.

The mismanagement of public services to make them seem wasteful and dysfunctional is very intentional on the part of both our governing parties.

This is what I’ve found so frustrating about Ford, as an Ontarian. He’ll have a whole speech where he’s like “wow, public health sure does suck, huh? The hospitals don’t have any beds!”

And I’m screaming at the screen “motherfucker, you’ve got the knobs! Public health is whatever you say it is! Crank that shit up if you want more beds, you’re the bed guy!”

But he doesn’t want more beds. He wants private clinics and the money they come with.

It’s what made Mike Harris filthy rich. Before his political grifting, he was a golf instructor. Oh Ontario, you love your uneducated, corrupt politicians.

        Conservatives: “government is bad!”

        Conservatives: *governs badly

        Conservatives: “see?”

Truly a tale as old as time…

Yup, this is exactly it. Hospitals are actually very efficient for what they offer and the costs keep rising and the funding does not increase to match those rising costs.

Media never talks about this, but Ontario hospitals are frequently visited by US hospital managers because we are decades ahead of the US for efficiency.

That’s horse shit. I have been in both US and Canadian hospitals for care and the US is a one stop shop while Canada’s are full of waiting lists and shortages. Now I have only seen East Coast and West Coast Canada but I can’t imagine how ON is a wonderland while there are horror stories from all across the rest of the country? COVID showed that our system was broken and the government has not done anything to fix it. Empty hospitals (Overflowing Trauma Centers) with no equipment to treat people and no Canadian manufacturing system to build what we need for ANYTHING. Our government is just talking about this shit now. Pipelines should have been built decades ago to provide much needed debt relief along with refineries to sell our gas and oil products to the word instead of buying it from the Middle East. This Buy Canadian program is going to RUIN Canada because the government is going to decide what companies are getting projects and who survives and doesn’t. We are not Commies we are a free market society.
