This is hard to believe, a PC gaming console that runs games at 4k/60FPS and is a 160mm cube that makes zero noise and stays cool? What kind of eldritch sorcery is this? What sort of unholy daemon lingers within the Gabecube?
This is giving me big Kickstarter scam vibes, but it’s fucking Valve so surely they have to deliver something at least, right? If they can actually make this thing work and be reasonably affordable then this will be huge for PC gaming, I think.
Extremely self-congratulatory tech insider, but puts the specs in context. It’s about as powerful as a $600 laptop, which is the most he expects it to sell for.
Valve only claims “6 times the performance of a Steam Deck” in the announcement, which isn’t all that much depending on how that’s measured. Still way faster than an Xbox, though.
If you remember, they marketed the Steam Deck as being able to run AAA games, which it definitely couldn’t do without massive compromises. There’s a definitely a level of marketing BS here, but I wonder if there’s going to be a point in the near future where they can say ”if you don’t care about AAA, this is for you”.
It will basically be a PS5/Xbox without a monthly subscription and have a handheld and VR headset ecosystem ready to go. It’s not super powerful but I think at the PS5 level most people will think everything looks good enough already
The only shame is not getting FSR4 but maybe they’ll be able to accommodate the RDNA3 int8 port of it

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
4k with fsr, and probably none of them featuring ray tracing
