I have a large number of Pathfinder PDFs from Humble Bundle, however they are locked. I am unable to bookmark them or write any notes in them. Both things i like to do before running a module. And while them having my email address watermarked on them is annoying, it is not the end of the world.

Are there official PDFs that you can edit? Or do I need to check with Anna?

Sucks that legal options so very often lack functions that are more or less standard otherwise. Reminds me of unskippable piracy warnings on purchased movie media

I don’t think many people will disagree with me when I say: if you’ve bought it legally already, there’s nothing immoral about getting help from Anna.

I’ve actually never had a problem bookmarking and taking notes on a PDF, is this a new thing?

Editing the PDF content itself, no (like removing the email address watermark). But adding comments and bookmarks on top works fine. My PDF readers ask if I want to make a copy or put the edits on top of this PDF, and that’s all.

That being said, I agree with Zagorath. If you need to edit it and you already bought it, it’s ethical to ask Anna.

So normally I download the pdf, then toss it into books on my iPad. I like books because it paginates like a book left to right. Rather than top to bottom.

I will try making a copy of it on my laptop and see if that changes anything.

Oh I wonder if Books is a little less feature-rich because it’s more of a (book) reader than an PDF reader/annotator.

I use GoodReader and have used PDF Expert as well in the past. Both have really good annotation support, and they both have an option for pagination as well.

I am able to bookmark and highlight sections in Books in other pdfs. But none that I have purchased from paizo.

It also has a writing feature that I use my stylus to add my own notes.

Yeah you’re right, that would drive me nuts. I like having my tools that work.

I wonder if they have some sort of write protection set at the PDF level, so you’d have to import it into like the Acrobat editor and remove it.

I would definitely try to find one online and see if I could annotate that one. No doubt.

I wonder if they’d get back to you if you explained the predicament to Paizo customer support.
