I have a science-fantasy world with intelligent non-anthro animals living in harmony, which I’ve posted some lore about this in the past. Think “communist non-anthro Zootopia with sci-fi technology.” This is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while and combines my interests in worldbuilding and software. I want to create a fictional social media platform for the animals in my world, and stage fictional threads in the typical Reddit/Lemmy format discussing news and politics taking place within the world. Then post screenshots here with context explaining what is happening. I just thought this might be a more fun way of sharing lore about my world than just the articles themselves, almost like an ARG. I’ll also be able to introduce some of my main narrative characters through their social media presence.

On the technical side of things, I don’t know if I want to compile and spin up a local Lemmy instance at home and actually stage accounts and posts on it. But actually logging in and out of different accounts sounds like way more work than necessary so I could also just take the Lemmy UI and add my own mock thread data to it. Or, I could write my own code for a completely fictional GUI, since I don’t want to just use the default Lemmy UI and break the illusion. The second and third options might be more important if I want to make this an actual ARG and host a website for it, since in that case I don’t actually want people to sign up and post.

I would love some feedback in general on this idea, and maybe gauge interest on if this is something people would like to see.

So is it more like all animals can develop the same traits in this universe?

Kind of. They have technology to adapt almost any species to almost any environment, so your low level biological limitations don’t matter that much because there are ways to get around them.

Like wouldn’t a polar bear have more difficulty adjusting to the city environment than a cat?

If the city was designed for a cat, then yes, not because of climate but mainly because of size logistics, most of the infrastrure is designed for animals much smaller than a polar bear, and while infrastructure designed for large animals do exist even when the city is exclusively inhabited by small animals, the could be few and far between so there could still be accessibility issues. City planners try to work around this by interleaving different sized infrastructure and laying out infrastructure like a fractal: you first evenly distribute infrastructure and housing for the largest size class, then you distrubute infrastrure and housing for the next largest size in between the largest size infrastructure, then do the same for the next size class, and so on. This avoids the “Zootopia style” size-based segregation (i.e. the tiny rodent village that falls apart as soon as a larger animal needs to traverse through it), but it’s still not perfect.

Bears are also on the Trophist side and are generally not allowed to just move into Unitist territory without careful vetting to ensure them as an individual will follow Unitist law, so there aren’t a lot of bears in cities designed for small animals in general, but if one does get granted migration into a Unitist city, the city planners are obligated to accomodate them to the best of their ability same as any other animal, once you’re physically in Unitist territory you have the same rights and access to resources/infrastructure as everyone elss.

So it’s kinda like flights? I do wonder why it’s all free, it feels like this would be something which would be a huge industry in the universe.

It’s free because it’s publicly owned infrastructure operated by governments. Most essential resources and services in Unitist territory, like food, enzyme supplements, housing, utilities, education, and last but not least transportation, are free by constitution.
