Hearts is my favorite. It encourages my natural bastardry.

Bullshit is another favorite, as my (normally unethical) gift for lying is allowed to shine.

Old maid is a fun one thats easy to grasp. You remove one queen from the deck and deal the remaining cards equally (uneven hand counts are fine). Everyone then discards any value pairs in their hand (e.g. 2 8s or 2 Kings) to the centre, this can only be done in pairs so if you have 3 of a kind you can only discard 2 cards, likewise if you have 4 of a kind you can discard both pairs. Then the game begins.

The goal of the game is to have no cards in your hand, when that happens you have won. The player to the left of the dealer selects a card from any player to take, they are trying to find a match with the remaining cards in their hand, whenever you get a pair you add it the discard pile. Play continues until there’s only one person who is holding the remaining queen.

A lot of fun can be had with the bluffing and mind games.

I played quite a few but the only one that has enough depth to always replay is Skat . It is quite rule heavy, but it is not uncommon that groups that have played some time together start adding rules of their own.

Euchre was the card game that was played a lot by my family growing up, guaranteed at every camping trip, most Christmases too. It uses a smaller set of the standard deck and needs 4 people.
