But as The Detroit News argued, the Scat Pack version of the Sixpack “goes spec-for-spec against a BMW M530i that costs 10 grand more.”

That is the worst car comparison I have ever seen. Compare it to a midsize base model.

You’ll have to explain how this is the worst comparison you’ve ever seen, Charger Daytona is about 4 inches longer and almost the exact same width and height. 121 for the Daytona and 117.9 for the M5. And neither an M series nor a scatpack are a base model vehicle.

It’s not an M5, it’s a 530 they are comparing it to, which is the smallest engine (2.0L inline four) offered in North America.

If actually comparing to the M5, which has 717 hp and 738 lb.ft, It will absolutely destroy the Charger.

Well actually, all specs are based on the 2026 M530i, which is absolutely not the vehicle you’re talking about now. If what I’m seeing is true and you can pick up a fully optioned one for 75K Canadian, that is less and more powerful, while being very close in dimension, than an M530i when the 530 starts at 85k CAD. Doesn’t seem like a bad comparison to me. In fact, I would sure be tempted to pick up a Dodge over a bimmer at that price comparison.

Edit: also, an M5 is quite literally double the price of the six pack, for 200 more horsepower. I’d be buying the Dodge.

Huh? There is no such thing as an M530, there is only the 530. I’m a BMW tech, I think I know what they build and what’s under the hood.

Does BMW not have something called the M Sport Package on 3 and 5 series? Where it has M series badging without the rest?

They only add the “M” to the MPA (M Performance Automobile) on the more performance version, it is never added to a base model. In the 5 series range, there is a 530, an M550, and the M5.

An MPA vehicle, like the M550, is NOT an M car.

The 530 has a 2.0L turbo 4, the M550 has a twin turbo 4.4L V8, the M5 has a highly tuned version of the twin turbo 4.4L V8 plus an electric motor that adds another 194 hp.

The “M Sport Package” when added to any car is just a trim package. Upgraded seats and steering wheel, black window trim etc. It does not change the designation of the vehicle, or the performance in any way, except maybe a better steering rack, and bigger brakes. Although the M Sport Package brakes are still smaller than the brakes on the MPA version.

Ya, it’s kinda a confusing mess.
