    No, because someone who is from USA is an American like someone from UAE is an Emirate.

    No one who lives in Canada, Honduras or Brasil is going to call themselves American.

    We all know what “America” means, we all know what South America means, we all know what “The Americas” means, , we know what Latin America means, we know what Central America means. The only one that is confusing is “North America” because sometimes that includes Panama and everything north, sometimes it means only Mexico, US, and Canada, and sometimes only U.S. and Canada.

          With all that is happening around the world, I lost the ability to recognize when someone is being ironic or not. So I’m going to assume this is a genuine question, otherwise I wouldn’t engage in a discussion.

          Yes, I do actually know a lot who doesn’t. On the top of my head I remember Brazil. There, the normal way of saying is what can be roughly translated to “Unitedstater”

          Another example is France. There you might hear both terms normally.
