I was going to effort post, but I will just say that this shit truly makes it feel like the world is ending. It’s wild how each day is worse than the last as they continue to force it into anything and everything, and genuinely the only way I can find peace is to spend as much time offline as possible. At this juncture though, it seems almost impossible :/
I just heard someone the other day absolutely geek out about an Anthropic demo at his company which showed how easy it would be to replace him, a software engineer for a defense contractor. This AI bullshit is sooooo good at giving you something that looks like what you want but will quickly break down when faced with the slightest tension. So. Fucking bleak.
And don’t get me started with the “it’ll only get better types.” Like OK, pray fucking tell. Are you saying we’re going to need more compute to make better models? More compute that comes from precious minerals pillaged from the global south? Or do you actually believe computers are magical and you can just tell ChatGPT to give you more ram without any cost to the physical world?
