Aside from looking generic as fuck
I heard it was a lazy uninspired genre swap of overwatch (according to a thesaurus, over->high, watch->guard), so get excited for season passes, skins, etc.
Most people who call themselves gamers dont play games and their real hobby is engaging in outrage cycles same as it ever was. Anyway im sitting here waiting for assetto corsa rally to install so i can pretend im colin mcrae
fantasy theme
modern tacticool ass guns
awful aesthetic
nothing innovative gameplay wise
since half of the devs on this are Titanfall alumni, people were expecting something that wouldn’t turn out to be another concord.
It’s a mess of systems that don’t mesh well together.
It’s a 3v3 hero shooter where the objective is to capture a sword, carry it to the enemy base, and use it to initiate a base assault phase where the attacking team tries to sabotage gizmos while the defending team tries to stop them. This basic gameplay is more or less fine; I have some quibbles with time to kill, ability balance, weapon variety, etc. but they’re not the important part. The important part is that there are a bunch of things that don’t support this core idea, such as:
-
The map is way too big for 6 players, and everyone gets a mount to move around the map faster. Why not make the map a reasonable size and scrap the mount mechanic? Presumably to sell mount cosmetics, and to provide space for all the treasure chests that make up point 2.
-
Despite being basically an arena shooter, it for some reason has the open-chests-for-random-loot mechanic from games like Fortnite and Apex. In those games, the purpose of tiered loot is to give you an incentive to keep opening chests throughout the early and middle game, which drives teams into the same areas and encourages them to fight for resources instead of turtling. In this game, you’re always in competition with the other team over the objective, so this is totally unnecessary. The game actually starts with like two minutes of enforced looting time to make sure that everyone opens chests to gear up instead of rushing the objective. Why not just put weapon spawns in strategic locations on the map like in Quake, UT, Halo, etc. and cut the entire looting phase?
-
Speaking of loot, to get currency to buy armor and extra gear, you have to mine ore during the match. Clicking rocks is not the kind of exciting gameplay you really want to see in a fast paced 3v3 shooter. Shopping is probably not a thing that should be in a fast paced 3v3 shooter.
It overall creates a muddled impression of scale: the map is big, the sword summons a giant siege engine, the looting and shopping mechanics feel like they belong in a game with high player counts and long matches. The game feels like it’s designed to evoke a feeling that this is a huge battle. But there are only six players in the map. It ought to feel tight and focused and hectic, and during the base assault phase it does! But they’ve made a bunch of design decisions that work against the the game mode they implemented.
And it’s the only game mode, so if you think that it would be better with bigger teams, or if the objective was different, or you just want to play deathmatch, you can’t do any of that.
I was watching a streamer play it and the mane physics on the mount is cool, but it feels like it moves slightly faster than no weapon sprinting in Apex. Apex also has more fun ways to get around to combine with sprinting and feels less cumbersome than summoning a horse.
Yeah, it just sounds like a mishmash of whatever’s popular to get the funding to get made. Normally things like this would just live on the epic games store as fortslop and you’d never hear about them

leaves you exposed to live shots
you know how you can put text through google translate a bunch of times and it comes out all fucked up but still faintly legible? someone did that to a league of legends image to get this picture
Sejuani with a revolver
Garen with an assault rifle
Caitlyn, unchanged
Checks out
i read the third one as Gun Ashe but otherwise yeah
It was hyped up for hours at the game awards as being a product of some titan fall devs. Then the trailer dropped and it looks like Paladins with destructible buildings. I’ll probably still check it out
Paladins with destructible buildings
I would love that.
Well do I have the game for you!
I think it even comes out soonit’s out now lmaoUnfortunately I can’t even try it because of the bullshit anticheat that doesn’t allow Linux users.
Goddamn of course
There’s a certain sort of gamer chud who malds very loudly and publicly any time a game they’re not interested in has the audacity to publicly exist at them personally, and when those games are uninspired live service games in heavily ossified genres with strong established competition already it’s like blood in the water for them because they get the small joy of some people online agreeing with them that it doesn’t look particularly good.
is the game woke?
tbh to me this one doesn’t have the chud stank on it, it reads more like like a giant middle finger at game studio CEOs from anyone who plays games for just pushing out more live service slop. Is it a fair punching bag idk, but most of the reviews are normies being like “it’s pretty boring” or earnest reviews citing things like performance and the need for kernel access or just general design decisions which are all completely valid criticisms. is a lot of it crass or written to also be a meme, yes but i mean it is gamers we’re talking about its their style
It’s not a controversy it’s everyone throwing tomatoes at the industry
It makes me think of how g@mers never complain about working conditions, crunch, or the downward forces of capital on games but get pissed off when a character has pronouns.
A game got made in the material conditions you seem to be okay with, what did you expect?
Not really a controversy, apparently they were planning on completely shadow dropping the game today without any prior marketing but Geoff Keighley supposedly persuaded them to let him showcase it at the game awards as the final trailer.
Whether money changed hands for the ill advised trailer or Geoff really believed in the project and did it for free (or some combination thereof) is up for debate.
Geoff admitted it’s the latter. The team did originally planned to shadowdrop and had to quickly come up with a trailer for that (which kinds of confirmed it never had the original release date during TGA some people theorized before).
it’s getting review bombed bc gamers are mad it was given the final trailer slot at the game awards bc Geoff Keighley thought it looked cool lmao, i guess they were expecting half-life 3 or smth idk
have not touched it but other than it looking generic as fuck i really don’t see how it deserves a like fuckin 10% steam review score or whatever it has rn
I read the actual final slot game was delayed and had its trailer pulled, and Highguard inherited the position.
It would be funny as fuck if said game actually was HL3
To my knowledge that’s pretty much it. Just a mediocre live service game that’s apparently nowhere near ready for release.
Game is probably awful but I appreciate the bear cavalry.
That’s pretty much it
Another PvP game with no real distinction
Midevil sword games have surged in popularity with rascists lately. They want to be crusaders or something. They always find stuff to get mad about
It’s not Titanfall 3

This is almost the closest thing I could see people being mad about but it’s not even by respawn. It’s a different studio so it has to be a different game and they’re probably going as generic as possible to play it safe
Sadly they invited the comparison by starting their trailer at the game awards with “from the makers of titanfall and apex legends”. At the end of the day it’s the people that make a game, not a brand name, and Wildlight was formed out of people that worked on titanfall, apex, and COD.
Hearing that made me think of Back 4 Blood and how they plastered all over it came from the makers of Left 4 Dead and then it was really underwhelming by comparison.
L4D2 is so old but still the coop horde shooter GOAT. You’d think something would depose it by now
