I’m a big fan of the indie game Hypnospace Outlaw. (Lemmy kind of gives me Hypnospace vibes which is part of the reason why I’m really enjoying it haha.) The upcoming sequel Dreamsettler is probably my most anticipated upcoming game.

The developer just released a spinoff game on Steam called Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath, which is a retro Doom-like game created by one of the fictional characters in Hypnospace Outlaw. Has anyone here been playing it? I started playing it last night and it’s pretty neat, although I’m not sure how much it plays into the lore of Hypnospace. I’ve only completed three levels so far, but so far I’m a little disappointed that there isn’t more story. I was hoping there would be some kind of twist beyond what was shown in the trailer. But maybe that will come later in the game?

Anyways has anyone here been playing Slayers X? What do you think of it?

I played it and really liked it. It really scratches that itch of getting into online rabbit holes in an old web environment. Also as a fan of the vaporwave theme i found it one of the best experiences i had in gaming.

I think Slayers X is on gamepass as well. I haven’t played it yet, but I would like to. I loved the vibe and artistry of Hypnospace Outlaw, but couldn’t really get into it as a game. Really cool as like a “Geocities Simulator '97” sort of thing.

I don’t know how far you got in Hypnospace Outlaw but I would describe it as more than a simulator. The story is really good and it really makes you care about the Hypnospace community. There are parts where the game jumps forward in time so you can see how certain events affect the community which is really cool. I think the game seems gimmicky at first but there’s a lot of depth to it.
