If China was making vassals, you wouldn’t see the kind of development I get to participate in with my work here. You would see Bulgaria. The only people who will ever buy this shit are people who somehow forgot about the colonial era (westerners). When brother Laos emerged from French occupation there were people in villages a hop skip and a jump away from each other that had little trade activity and no family visits.

Guess it depends on the purpose of the vassal. Japan/SK were developed by the US, because their primary purpose was security rather than resource extraction, while South America gets coups and tons of military aid to keep the resources and cheap labor flowing.

This would be a sprawling discussion to commence under a twitter screenshot tbqh, but to nutshell it, blood cannot be squeezed from a stone. Western Europe (+ Scandinavia etc) and Japan (including N.Zealand and Australia) are fellow imperialists with the US. The deal is just getting worse. Neocolonialism makes sense for former colonialists that have these huge military and extractive logistics spread worldwide, but only in the sense that it benefits their ruling class (international bourgeoisie). China is not pursuing imperialism because mutual development is more stable. Even India mirrored some of these mutualistic foreign policies for this reason. If an Indian politican were to actually serve the national interest they would focus on that rather than turning it into Rhodesia 2. You do not have to believe the US economic dogma that there is one development path, which is based on comparing statistics without taking account of the whole situation lol. Hence the endless collapse predictions and surprise comebacks. The west is fundamentally opposed to capital controls, your govt can’t even boost military industry because subsidies are converted directly into price increases more than half the time. The subsidies are essentially handouts to rentier capitalists who have no obligation other than to maximize returns.

China just doesn’t pursue the agenda you’re talking about which goes like, build a mine + port + railway, leave it stagnant for 80 years, run militias to keep the govt minimized and extractive industries completely deregulated.

I probably left some stuff out idk it’s a twitter screenshot thread man
