The politics of professional athletes are a clear reflection of league demographics.

Well it is not like there are a ton of hockey rinks for folks without richy rich parents in the sub/exurbs. Playground basketball courts are cheap compared to the privilege (the in the USA) of having access+money for hockey.

In the USA it is an elitist sport. Like lacrosse but requires a several dozens of refrigerators to be running per game.

You don’t have to subscribe to the politics to enjoy watching the sport.

It’s not just hockey, pretty much any highly paid sport will have the players skew to the right politically. Tom Brady, Mike Tyson, Pete Sampras, Don King, Arnold Palmer, Shaquille O’Neal, Dennis Rodman, and many many others.

You’d pretty much have to stop watching all sport to avoid MAGAs.

I really did stop watching all sports because of it. And it’s not skewing to the right anymore, it’s people supporting a child rapist administration.

sports is one of the cornerstones to the american dream illusion, which is used (in combination with other pillars) to keep americans dumb and compliant while their oligarchs squeeze them for every last $ they can.

        bread and circuses

It really is, I’ll watch PL still but dropping out on nhl and mlb has only helped my mental health. The amount of commercials constantly blasted at you makes it feel like psychological warfare

Oh weird! They must’ve starting taking traffic and moved it inside the paywall. I wish I could get the graph, which is the gist of the article, but the thesis is that when you match players to their registration, the NHL has the most registered Republicans, at ~60%, than any league other than the MLB.
