Bruh “just” ban the use of the fucking attention sucking, addiction driving algorithms and dismantle the predatory surveillance ad infrastructure that drives all this ghoul shit.

Kids using social media are not the problem here.

Nothing would be wrong if your timeline was bsed on shit your friends liked/boosted, sorted by time or some “hotness” factor

I mean, there’s a bit of a difference between a simple score of

        mean interactions per t_sliding_window

and whatever skinner box hell they’ve implemented “over there”.

I’d take something like Lemmy does. A button at the top that transparently tells you how content is sorted for you and you can change it to your preference

Yeah, but if they banned that, how could these megacorporations make billions? Think of the poor billionaires! Much better to just force all the proles into a surveillance state so they are unable to rebel against their masters.

Just show things chronologically. That’s how everything worked before Facebook and it was fucking great. Also, no visible ‘likes’. If you appreciate something, comment!

Counter proposal, we ban social media. Maybe even the internet.

Give it a few years. Wouldn’t surprise me if the internet is entirely replaced by apps then.

If we could just reduce it to a bunch of niche forums and message boards that are obscure and not commonly engaged with, that’d be great.
