That’s the duality of oppression, a society full of people accepts a mode of operation that’s suggested by a handful of them but made into a reality by the whole population. No need to get snippy about it. Really, accepting that the real power rests with the people is typically the only viable way to overthrow an oppressive system. It’s the “illusion of no alternative” itself that keeps the system in place.
