Dylan, useful idiot with commit access, pushed age verification PRs to systemd, Ubuntu & Arch, got 2 Microslop employees to merge it, called it 'hilariously pointless' in the PR itself, then watched Lennart personally block the revert. Unpaid compliance simp.
This whole debacle makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Are people ignoring that age checks just like this are littered all over the internet already and it’s not a big deal because you just put whatever nonsense you want and move on.
Like unfortunately with the way things are going it seems like this is a relatively pragmatic way to avoid going full UK and needing an internet loicense. Actual age verification with ID/face scan/algorithmic age detection is proliferating pretty rapidly (see discord etc). If this law lets websites/programs hand off this liability to the OS then they might because it’s cheaper and we won’t all have our facescans and internet history in some fucking Palantir database.
It’s also not a slippery slope because none of this is building the architecture required to make real age verification mandatory?
