It’s down again. At this point it’s been down more than up. Super sucks because I figured it was a nice, decentralized instance concept.
Anyone else notice or care?
SDF is the instance I chose in the great migration from deaddit. I’m really just hoping to pull my data and move it to another instance just so I can at least keep my community list intact.
SDF has had really bad, like week long, gaps in uptime recently. This had happened periodically since I’ve been here (usually around once a year), but these last few months have been pretty bad and I definitely need a backup account.

Yeah I think I’m going to have to hang up the hat on my ol account there until we get some admins there who are willing to really support the thing
I appreciate it. Honestly, I had the same kinds of thoughts as you did in setting up there, it seems. For now, I’m gonna see about keeping this account active and checking in with SDF periodically to see if it’s worth going back to.

There is a good chance that lemmy.sdf.org will return after much
needed disk expansion. We ran out of space. Currently everything
is preserved, we just need more disks in order to bring the site

That is surprising and concerning. SDF are battle-hardened computer nerds. Their main website is up and doesn’t indicate a broader problem. The 502 gateway error that the lemmy subdomain is throwing usually points to a gateway/proxy misconfiguration or too much traffic (both of which don’t seem that likely) their mastodon instance is still up tho so hopefully I’ll still get notice of new Techno-Mage content
Thank you for confirming, though. I figured it would be a bulletproof server considering the SDF notoriety but it’s been really bad as of recently.
Sucks, it seemed very open as a platform. Hopefully the creator(s) will chime in and make a new plan for its future.

Yeah it’s gone like I’ve never seen before. I got booted right out of my account on the Voyager app. Just a 502 bad gateway at their lemmy website.

yeah I just don’t see them abandoning it foever. I was very tempted to go that route but they don’t seem like they are looking to change a lot and im not wild about lemmy and don’t like using app interfaces. Sorta wish the world science fiction society would have an instance where membership was kinda closed (like only supporting members who do have dues but get perks with decision) users but some open communities to discuss science fiction and fantasy literature. thing is they definately would need some closed communities to to discuss the up coming hugos and such. they have discord now. ugh.

Im not staying on topic very well just talking about things im thinking about. sdf and the wsfs feel very similar to me so I sorta think of them together. I personally don’t like lemmys web interface and I feel they are more inclined to have apps deal with it than initially kbin when I made my initial choice but then piefed when I moved off mbin (which was necessary due to earnest having to retire off kbin)
At least it’s been just down for a few days at most before this, but who knows at this point.
Unsure as for it being bulletproof it’s hard to say how much they cared on making it that way. Mostly saying because when first joined had cert issues about every 3 months
