I’m sorry for your loss, it must be rough to have a colleague disappear like that and still not have answers. What makes me still think it was a genuine accident is that her story is very similar to many stories from hikers who have nearly died (or did die) on a hike. You can be with a group, in a popular area, etc, but if you get turned around or walk off the trail people can miss you (or your corpse) for literal decades. I think it was just a few years ago that they found a skeleton in Griffith Park (Los Angeles) right off a trail, nobody had seen the person fall or the body for years.
I’m not ruling out foul play, I just also know even experienced hikers can fall prey to stuff like this.
I hear what you’re saying. Monica wasn’t the sort to do dumb stuff, and the story of one of the guys she was with seemed weird. I actually do suspect hers was foul play, but I don’t think it was part of any conspiracy thing; it’s more likely it was a relationship thing.
