Please explain for dumb dumbs like me who know little or no Japanese? What pronoum is it and what it does, or why is it odd that they kept it?
From what I found, it looks like it’s just the word for pronoun.
I might be wrong, though, and my source inaccurate.
For me as well, I might want it too.
Japanese has a large number of pronouns, differing in use by formality, gender, age, and relative social status of speaker and audience. Further, pronouns are an open class, with existing nouns being used as new pronouns with some frequency.
