I’m going to stop studying for a week. Because I’m going to be in Germany.
I’ve given this some though: there is no amount of studying I can do that compares to just the natural immersion of being in Germany. No amount of Anki cards or grammar exercises will be as good, or important, as another 10 minutes going to a store, bar, restaurant or other activity and just trying to soak in all the natural German I can.
So that’s a rule I’m making for myself. No more studying until I get back from the trip. Catching up to a weeks worth of Anki backlog probably will suck though lol.
What l suggest is you open an account on some Piefed instance to see the difference. You may open an account here or on Piefed social. There are some more instances open to registration. Choose one, open an account, and then operate this lemmy community from there. Only then can you notice the difference.
Lemmy does allow images. Just seems like they’re attached some kind of different way. Now that I’m on desktop I can open that link on its own instance. And it’s actually a little aggravating, the pictures are shown enlarged by default, with no way (I can find) to collapse them? But that’s probably just the default UI or config for that instance.
I probably might open a Piefed account someday. One of those things I’d like to get around to, that I’m not in any hurry for.
No, that’s not by default but by a choice l’ve made in my settings. I love my piefed community that way.
But what l wish to say is that if you’re the only responsible admin of the language community, then you would get a better UI experience to work with if you shift your community to piefed. That way your UI would change. But everything related to your community remains the same.
I know there are cool ux improvements and more thought out design in Piefed, but I’m not too sure of the particulars. Mainly I’m aware of it having a way to kinda ‘group up’ related communities and reduce duplication.
And now … the riskiest thing I’ve done.

Good call! Savor it.
Looking forward to the post-mortem. ;)
I seriously wish you had created this community on some Piefed instance.
I didn’t make it, just filling in since past mods have stepped away for now. Agree Piefed is good, but not sure it’d be worth migrating anything.
Probably you don’t have a hang of Piefed.

This is my community on piefed, and l’m commenting from Piefed.
I definitely don’t have a hang of it. From Lemmy/Voyager, that link looks like any other community. What should I be noticing?
This is what the page looks like from my system.
Lemmy doesn’t allow you to view images.

@emb @MastKalandar what’s the advantage of using piefed? I don’t know much about it
Follow my community !south_asia_bazaar@feddit.online from your Mastodon account. Do you notice any difference ??
