Kim Jung Gi was one of the most highly acclaimed artists of the 21st century. A heart attack lead to his untimely death in October 2022, being only 47 years old.
He became famous for his inking skills, being capable of drawing highly detailed murals without any reference. His calling card became his use of 5 point perspective with multiple vanishing points. Notably, his perspective skills were the product of practiced intuition, as he only learned the mathematical principles behind it after enrolling in an art school.
He spent most of his time drawing and was invited around the world to paint murals for different occasions. He left behind more than 6000 identifiable works and South Korea opened a museum dedicated to him postmortem.
A collection of his works can be found here: https://archive.org/details/982_20221008/kim-jung-gi-2018-sketch-collection/
He truly was someone an artist can aspire to.
◇ ◇ If you drew something that is still a Work In Progress (WIP), this is the place to share it. ◇ ◇
◇ ◇ If you have any art related thoughts or questions, this is the place for that discussion. ◇ ◇
This mega’s purpose is to create a casual, low-pressure environment for artists and non-artists alike to engage in sharing their incomplete art, giving feedback to others and holding general art discussion. If you are an artist with original works that are complete, you are highly encouraged to make a standalone post for it.
And when I say incomplete, I do mean literally anything that you wouldn’t consider a complete illustration or artwork, from basic anatomical sketches and messy perspective exercises to half-rendered paintings. All skill levels are welcome.

Some practice face sketches plus trying out an old style I did ages ago. Made some Anatomy Sketches ages ago that involved only using straight lines for the body, ended up liking the style back then and made a full A4 coloured pencil piece.
Probably need to practice more, liked the brush pen I used. Afterwards its trying colour.
Here’s some quick and dirty pastel flowers 🙂 I’ll share some other sketches that I liked eventually

This is the cure for doomscrolling

I had no idea he died. I was just thinking of him when I saw some modular inking pens.
I found out right away in 2022, he really left us too soon.
Kim Jung Gi’s artwork is absolutely goated. I only learned about him months before his death unfortunately, wish I knew about his artworks earlier.
An original piece of made in a image video, called The Twilight of the empire and the darke toweri’ve been really struggling with moh’s color palette but i think i’m really happy with the new revisions i made. it just feels so much more readable now!

i need to develop my discipline as an artist, it falters way too much.,
I bought some rougher paper to try out, and I feel like this is one of the better pencil sketches ive ever done. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like the texture of the paper helped out somehow?
Is this a thing? Should i have been using pencil on textured paper this whole time?
I’m a big noob so if this is an obvious thing please let me know

That sketch looks good. I think the way the graphite sits on the bumps and grooves of the textured paper gives the look.
I don’t know about using textured paper for pencil sketches or pieces. I’ve generally used smooth paper so could be personal preference.
Thank you. You might be right, it’s probably just down to preference.
I think I am going to keep using this paper for now. Produce more data points and see if I notice a trend, so to speak
In my personal experience textured paper always felt better for pencil sketches, but I don’t think it provides some sort of tangible advantage
Adorable sketch by the way
Thank you! I’m definitely going to continue using this paper. Maybe it’s just a mental thing but I really click with it.
cute doggy! the textured paper really adds to that impression of fur in your shading.
Thank you. I think you are right, that the paper brings out the impression of fur. I want to experiment with this more.

Tested out the brushed pens I got by doing this piece from a scene from Evangelion. They feel weird to use honestly. I going to have to try them out more, likely on smaller sketches.

oooh i like these, great work! i find brush pens so satisfying but they definitely have a learning curve to control line weight and such. they’re just so sensitive to pressure!
Thanks!!
They are definitely pressure sensitive and learning to use a brush tip instead of a normal tip is a bit difficult. I’m much more used to pencils.
