When Soviet Union fell it also was very slow at start, took several years, but then the house of cards started to fall down. Wikipedia cites ‘decline and collapse’ of Soviet union between 1988 - 1991 and the final downfall happened almost overnight. Situation today has a lot of similar patterns, so I’m keeping my hopes up that the history will repeat itself and that Ukraine and ukrainians can withstand the horrors a bit more.
Don’t forget how former tzar was ousted from power. At WWI army was beat, hungry, starving and fed up with war, they decided to make ceasefire with enemies and go home, where they made a revolution.
