    It’s a mixed bag, in my opinion, but I would call it “required reading” regardless.

    The story is good, and worth experiencing. The framing of the game as TV episodes is pretty cool. Music is great. In general the game has the patented Remedy oddness and charm that you don’t get from many other developers.

    Gameplay is fine, but not great and can get a bit repetitive. Don’t expect a polished and modern action experience. There are some set piece moments that stand out and are great, though.

    But again, it’s more or less required reading on the way to Alan Wake 2, so there is no reason not to play it. AW2 is one of the best games I’ve played, and it’s worth doing the Remedyverse homework for it.
