Pencils haven’t used lead in almost a century. Pencils use graphite which is just really thin sheets of carbon atoms arranged in lattice. Graphite is for all intents and purposes harmless to humans.
They’ve never used lead, actually. People just thought graphite was black lead back in the 1500s.
