For some time now I’ve been thinking about tipping my toe into a second character next to Baiken.
But I feel like there is still soooo much to learn for Baiken, that taking on another character would be like breaking off my Baiken training.
On the other hand I feel like I put so much work into Baiken already (about 100 hours). Working my way up to that point with another character feels like a daunting task.
I also only have 1-2 hours every couple of days to play and I’m not sure I can deal with learning a new char and maintaining my Baiken skill level.
Hoe do you fellas deal with the urge to play a new char, while trying to not lose focus on your main?
It’s easier or harder from person to person.
Ether you wanna learn a completely different character so that you don’t mentally associate them with your first and there’s no mistaking their differences.
Or you learn someone similar to the point where you already know and have practiced their gameplan.
I don’t personally know baiken at all but for me it comes from loving the character. First I-no, then Asuka, And some Nago in between.
You will never know everything there is to know about every matchup. Try not to get overhwelmed and focus on learning one thing at at time. Having a good mindset is vital to improving in fighting games, and it’s not an easy thing for everyone. It can get frustrating.
Since you have limited time you should try to identify what you need to work on, and focus your time on that. If you aren’t sure what to do, look at your replays and ask yourself what did you do wrong, and how can you identify this situation and know your options in the future.
Putting in the effort is what makes the reward so satisfying. Try not to rush yourself because it will only hinder you. We’re all still learning, even the best players. Try not to compare yourself to other people, compare yourself to your past self. If you can slow down and learn a little at a time eventually you’ll find yourself improving.
Also I just wanted to mention that our brains need passage of time to actually digest information. There’s a limit to how much you can learn in a certain amount of time. So often I find myself coming back to something after weeks and trying again doing much better.
Learning a new char is information overload, it’s literally not possible to shove it all into your brain at once.
Do you have any top Baiken players you watch? Watching them can inspire you and show you things you didn’t realize were possible. I often find myself saying ‘whoa you can DO that?’ and trying it out in training mode. Things like this add up over time and help lead you towards mastery
