Hi to all subscribers of this community,

I just wanted to see how everyone is doing. I’ve not been active on Lemmy in recent times, as I have cut social media out of my life for the most part. However, this is one of the few communities that I still visit from time to time, as I think this is a great community (even though it isn’t very active).

My creative drive has been killed of by the heatwave last week, as it was 30C in my apartment. It felt like my brain was just in survival mode as I was unable to do any creative things this last week (like writing, drawing or even just thinking about life as I usually do).

Today is the first day that I really feel like writing again, as it has cooled down.

How about you? Was it hot were you live and did you do any journaling last week?

I can confirm, I did all my creativity-requiring uni homework problems in the late evening when it was like 0.4 degrees colder

It’s 27C here in my office, but I’m still plugging away. Just doing things in short bursts, and taking breaks in cooler parts of the house. I’ve been keeping my drive going fairly well. But I’ve switched from my journals to working on my websites for a bit. Managed to migrate three of them off WordPress and over to write.as, and I am finding the minimalism more inspiring to writing.

It‘s important to have the technology sorted out, as nothing kills my creative drive more than having to deal with technical issues. A distraction free experience is a good thing for writing, which is why paper is still very popular, at least for journaling.

Yeah, getting these blogs off WordPress has done wonders in ways I couldn’t have imagined — like I am getting more traffic to the new blogs than I ever saw on my WordPress blogs.

Absolutely on the old-school pen and paper writing experience. I got into fountain pens last year and started keeping a journal in A5 notebooks. I’m over 800 pages this year. I also started drafting my longer essays in B5 notebooks. I’m working on my third essay. (When I say long, I mean 20+ pages each.)

Some journal entries I will be turning into short stories, or incorporating into novels. And eventually I’ll type up and re-write my essays to publish online.

I was also affected by the heat wave. Like you, I felt like my brain and body just went into survival mode. I would mostly just sit or lay on the couch waiting for the heat to pass.

I still somehow managed to journal for most of the days. Usually in the morning hours when it was still somewhat manageable. But I also had some thoughts and experiences I really wanted to put down in writing during those days. So I pushed me to get it on paper and once I started writing, words were coming. The entries during the heat were actually one of the longer ones in my journal.

Yes, I know that feeling. Sometimes, you have some thoughts that you just have to write down, before they’re gone. I usually don’t have time to write in the morning, as I have to go to work, and I don’t want to get up earlier.

My creativity has mostly been going into an app that backs up my journal, and does text search. I added text selection for stuff like copy-pasting phone numbers, and now I’m a little hung up on making it perfect. Fortunately I’m in a spot that isn’t very hot so I’ve got a shot at getting things done.
