This is the first time I’m experiencing downtime for this instance, so I appreciate that a lot. Is anyone else currently experiencing troubles? Anyone know what is going on?
Hey all, most of today’s outage was caused by me. I implemented Anubis in attempt to differ some bot/scrapping traffic. We are presently serving over 350 million requests per month and its starting to show in the stability in the instance. I will be switching to the horizontal scaling approach in hopes to stabilize things more.
I’ll also be providing an long overdue update once I get everything back under control.
Sorry for the stability issues as of late, you all deserve better.
The uptime of this instance has been amazing, you’re doing a great job.
you are doing an excellent job. there is no better. don’t beat yourself up.
TheDude appears to be aware of the situation:

It would be nice if these sorts of things were announced on !main@sh.itjust.works in addition to Matrix.
To be fair, it’s difficult to post on a server that’s down. Matrix is a good secondary. I didn’t know there was a matrix instance
Yeah, I feel like most users don’t know about the Matrix instance.
it’s difficult to post on a server that’s down
True, although recently there have been issues affecting only the default frontend, with alternate frontends like tesh.itjust.works and mobile apps being unaffected.
It’s not only a fair response, but also an impossible request.
It seems to have stabalised already: https://lemmy-meter.info/d/GeoFE5WIz/instance-health-breakdown?var-lemmy_instance=sh.itjust.works&%3BorgId=1&%3Brefresh=1m&orgId=1
The weird part is, navigating from any loaded tab is often instant, but opening a new tab gets treated like a DDoS attack.
