On Reddit, most were pretty slow or full of fluff back when I used it, up to around 2023. Lemmy, or more broadly the fediverse as a whole, is pretty active if you’re not checking specific groups/communities/magazines/channels. Even more so if you use microblogging platforms, microblogging being e.g. Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram’s types of posts, or hybrid platforms with both microblogging and groups.
But also, algorithms, when present, are very minimal in the fediverse. You won’t be bombarded with stuff to follow, requiring you to curate what and who you follow. So back at being very active if not looking for specifics, follow enough communities of your interest, and your feed should fill up in no time.
