He can’t possibly do it, legally. By announcing it, he earns cred with people who like him and ensures that he couldn’t possibly do it even if it were legal. It’s a win-win for him as now he gets credit, but doesn’t have to do anything.

Legally, there’s an ICC warrant for his arrest.

Here is a fun fact: the US has a law which says they will use all means necessary to free a US service person if they are detained by the ICC.

And it’s in the news again so I guess they are planning (more) war crimes 🤷‍♀️

Despite how our politicians act, netanyahu is not a US anything.

You specifically stated “free a US service person,” which netanyahu isn’t.

Oh, sure. It would suffice to say the US isn’t a signatory to the ICC. My comment was to highlight that the US is pointedly against the ICC and has been for decades.

The US isn’t signatory to any of the enabling treaties of the ICC and generally doesn’t recognize its authority.

Why does announcing it ensure that he couldn’t do it if it were legal? Because Netanyahu would stay away?

Fidel Castro came to New York at the height of the Cold War and no police agency touched him.

And as an aside. Castro was told that he couldn’t go anywhere except Manhattan. He agreed and took rooms at the Hotel Terresa on 125 Street in the middle of Harlem. He was a big hit with the locals.

Because Trump would be sure there are federal thugs there to intervene and because Netanyahu would stay in a safe location at all times.
