I just never gave my TV access to the internet. Are we now not supposed to give our monitors access to our PCs?

Been on Linux (Mint) for 2 years after a lifetime of Windows (starting with 3.1.) No regerts.

The monitor isn’t doing anything, it’s Windows doing this shit. The monitor just says to the PC “Hi, I’m an LG monitor, model number XYZ”. Every modern monitor does this. Windows then phones home and downloads a driver package for the monitor based on the brand and model, which includes this malware.

This is on both Microsoft for allowing this shit, and on LG for abusing the system.

Then again, if you’re still using Windows in 2026 you kinda deserve it.
