Quick search indicates 342 million people in the United States according to their census, i tried to find the total amount of American citizens but that statistics doesn’t appear easy to find, if we divide it in half and say 171 million US citizens who all potentially own 1 maybe 2 maybe 5 maybe 10 firearms, even if the laws were to change federally at any point do you think every citizen is going to comply?

Even the Canadian government struggles confiscating firearms from licensed owners, and that’s closer to 2 million firearms now prohibited, I can’t imagine how Americans would handle it.

Doesn’t need to be confiscated. Just stop sales and the number goes down over time.

And before you start, you don’t have to stop all sales. We can start with the ones that have potential to kill the most.

Firearms are known to last over a hundred years and can be rebuilt, they don’t just magically go away when sales stop.

And as I mentioned in another comment, In the United States firearms don’t have to be registered, as far as I know this applies federally, may differ per state, how do you plan to track something with no traceability?

I think the can of worms being opened is far greater than what people expect.

I don’t believe it’s a fair comparison, there are more guns in the US than people.

      Easy. Make it socially unacceptable.

      Happened with smoking.

Firearms aren’t a social issue, you can’t stop people from camping in forests and using firearms as a tool for wilderness defence or folks who hunt and trap for a profession, not to mention people who live in remote locations where a Walmart is hours away opposed to minutes (I can’t confirm this last point for the US, but this is certainly a Canadian issue).

Target shooting is also recognized as an Olympic sport globally, you want to prevent teams from practicing their sport?

Every other country has gun laws and still competes in shooting targets. Difference is they do t run through schools murdering

Canada 2026 - Tumbler Ridge school shooting

Australia 2024 - Atlantis Beach Baptist College school shooting

            Germany 2026 - Welfen-Gymnasium school shooting

France & Austria 2025 - School shootings 2 hours apart from each other

Gun control helps minimize these incidents, sure, buts is certainly not a be all end all solution. Also Canada’s Wes Stevens heads to world shooting championships without a firearm due to countries regulations.

You don’t have to have 1 dude do the whole job. You can just use an equal amount of people per capita as smaller countries have.

If I’m not mistaken, not every firearm purchased in the US is registered. How do you expect people to find these firearms without traceability?

I don’t. I think there isn’t enough popular support for a gun ban for success to happen and it would be a pricey boondoggle. Laws that don’t have public consensus behind them have a poor track record. Look at prohibition or the war on drugs.

But it would not fail because of the size of the country. That’s silly.
