Since Android is becoming increasingly more locked down and slopped, I’m jumping ship.

There were (are?) some non-free proprietary parts to it, along with a subscription to emulate android apps. As far ad I know they were slowly open sourcing more and more of the special sauces.

But also according to many users on their forum, it has been a very mediocre to bad experience for many people such that many or most people who use sailfish do so while having to carry a second phone to access basic functions like receiving calls or GPS navigation or similar, which personally defeats the purpose for me.

I am really hoping their new 2026 phone is a complete turnaround and a great experience because we desperately need a daily driver Linux phones.

Ordered it in the First batch. They said that the Android App Support is going to be subscription-free for this one, so that’s a plus I guess. Also, calls and texts will be the first for me to try. If they don’t work, then it will be a return.
