what? climate change will hurt business too??
So another snarl in the supply chain, on top of Iran’s and Ansar Allah’s restrictions on other sea traffic. Is that good? 🤔
afaik the usa is the sole loser if a supply chain disruption occurs in the canal. it affects countries doing trade with the us, but it’s not like chile can’t sell to any other country. or china.
Surely Europe relies on it too? It’s the connector between the Mediterranean and Red Seas, without it ships have to go around Africa.
I believe that you’re thinking of the Suez Canal. The Panama Canal allows ship traffic to go from the Atlantic to the Pacific without going around all of South America.
yeah, but my point is that it isolates the us from the world, not the world from the us. ewwrope could find a new economic partner if they werent us vassal states, the us doesnt have an option but for increased trade costs. it surely affects internatilnal market cos its all conected tho.
It’s always been really shallow in Gatun Lake. I used to work on cruise ships that did the Panama Canal, and we used to get stuck behind cargo ships that ran aground and had to be towed off with tugs quite often. It doesn’t take much of a drop in rainfall to make the canal too shallow for ships to transit.
