My Valve Index not having motion smoothing was the reason I went crawling back to windows. Can’t wait to see how the Frame works with Linux so I can get it back on my PC.
Are you using VR? What’s the state of things these days? I’m afraid Zuckerberg killed it. Never heard about it anymore. Played around with gen 1 Vive and the first Quest and had fun, thought it would definitely slowly be developing towards games and not the bullshit Meta wanted, but it’s just a void of silence.
It’s awesome for simracing.
Yeah, that´s a dead ringer use case, and for the price of a 3 monitor display, the frame might actually be competitive and also less of a tecnical headache.
I loved it for flightsims, but there need to be more affordable controls you can use blindly. I even built a little button box with different kinds of switches to make my life easier.
That was the problem I had using vr for Elite: Dangerous and Star Wars: Squadrons. Awesome looking in vr, but impossible if you needed to use any keyboard controls.
ED was almost entirely workable with an X-Box controller. You could probably have a good time with two joysticks with a ton of buttons and a rudder pedal.
But the damn problem is memorizing all the controls.
Edit: Also you could use voice activated commands, but setting everything up was a like a hobby in itself.
Yeah, E:D was workable with a controller, but cumbersome.
I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a HOTAS set-up, but now I’ve hard-mounted my wheel that’s a bit less feasible.
Hm. There are ways, I’m sure.
I sat on a board and velcroed my joystick to it before I made a bracket under the seat to slide the board into…
You can also recruit your pedals as inputs, if you’ve got 'em.
Have a quest 3, still play it regularly. I hate that its meta, but love it for the price and ease of entry.
Woiuld love a frame, but with a second kid on the way, likely out of my reach
What are you playing?
Steam frame is coming up thats about the only interesting thing thats going to cost $1000-$1400 if not more so will be an overinflated $500 hardware. Still same shitty issues with the same shitty graphics and resolution. The new meta quest 3 looks better and I think has better tracking but, it’s tied down to shitbergs platform. Bigscreen got an update but, still not that much of an improvement. It’s almost like a limited technology that hasn’t had much improvements.
I was wondering if there’s been in any movement in software/UI/game development… I’d consider a headset to watch 3D movies at a high enough resolution, but for games, the immersion is enough of a draw that I don’t need the res, though it would certainly be appreciated.
Are you pretty much able to stream a game wirelessly via Wifi now?
You have been able to stream over wifi for ages now, just not with the shitty AP your ISP gave you, which is not a problem you can magic away with software. The steam frame will come with a special wifi dongle that will direct connect to the headset, bypassing the need for a not-shit AP for streaming.
The long and short of it is that wireless VR requires low latencies that you can’t achieve without consideration to the radios in use, because high bandwidth low-latency is tricky.
If you can drop a thousand on a novelty, you can drop $90 on a decent router and save some money (no longer renting you ISP’s)
I figure nerds who buy frames are probably not renting their routers from the cable company, tho?
I mean, how could they not?
