and jobs all over the place!

What? That doesn’t line up at all with how anyone is selling the damn things! The entire pitch coming from the industry is that it will remove jobs! “Stop hiring humans” anyone? Am I crazy?!

Of course not. Donnie was probably given some talking points from his billionaire buddies, and being the person he is, didn’t read them. I doubt he even knows what a data center does. They’re just something he was paid to say we should want. We already know he’s not exactly 100% there mentally, and we already know it is really easy to bribe the fucker, so this shouldn’t be a surprise.

Still, the fact that anyone still thinks that getting this guy to endorse a product will help make it more popular with the public continues to confound me.

Did they even try to present a future where communities with data centers benefit?

Do data centers create jobs? No.

Do they reduce the cost of living? No.

Do they bring up property values? No.

Don’t they actually increase the cost of living, by putting a strain on the electricity and water networks which increases price?

Contractually obligate the data center to provide those supposed benefits and they will mysteriously move to another locale

There’s a reason Elon is putting his gas guzzlers in the places he is. Sadly city councilors are eating up the bribes too.

Is there any location that is happy about their data center? I haven’t read any article about a community realising the benefits yet

I spent a few minutes searching, but yeah, I don’t see many stories of actual places. A lot is industry white papers about “how could they be beneficial for you?!”

CNN ran some story, but it’s pay-walled, and I don’t know how to remove those. https://www.cnn.com/2026/08/11/business/data-centers-ai-economy

I’ve heard consistently more stories about the problems from real people living near them, plus the horror stories online like Meta sludge run-off.
