I have fixed the pump that drains the washer. Completely dissembled and cleaned the whole dang machine. Replaced the the food disposal. Faucet replaced as well. I feel a little versed on this matter as I know my way around a kitchen. As long as it is not too dirty you can chuck that shit in the washer. Just clean the filter between washes. Use the cheep detergent tabs and get the cheap knock off jet dry and you are golden. If the shit stinks check the hose that connects to the disposal and clean that shit.
Most dishwashers rinse first. They do a short cycle with just water. It removes the big debris, helps prevent redepositing of debris, and if your machine has an “auto” or “sensing” mode, its using the rinse water to determine how dirty the dishes are and what cycle it needs to run them at.
Soap isnt dispensed until after this for the wash cycle.
Pro-tip: a better pre-wash cycle can be obtained by running your sink faucet hot water until it comes out hot, so the initial rinse cycle is hotter. You can also sprinkle some powdered detergent in the rinse tub when you start to get a more powerful preclean.
Rinse before washing?

I see someone watched Technology Connections’ dishwasher saga
They must’ve meant to put turn on washer right? The rinse cycle comes after, but I think they wanted some shorthand.
