It sounds like that one Asterix movie where they had to do the twelve tasks.
In one task Obelix went into an all-you-can-eat restaurant and had to eat everything he was given. He did. Then the cook ran out crying that he has nothing else to serve and he is now ruined.
Obelix went out like, “Such a weird cook; he gave me appetizers and left!”
Been a lot of years but I think they did run out “after (or during?) appetizers”. Probably with the intent to dispirit the challengers, or maybe overestimating their own stocks.

I’ve got some great nostalgia for the Asterix movies, dubbed in my native language, from watching them as kids.
Recently on some Christmas we met with family and ended up watching Mission Cleopatra (or however it’s translated), for Christmas. No regrets.
